Getting Started
Step 1: Update your CV
Make sure that your CV is up to date. This doesn’t always mean highlighting your most recent experiences; it often means highlighting those most relevant to the type of job you’re looking for.
If you need some support, send your CV to us – we will be happy to help.
Step 2: Make yourself available
Send us your CV; update your LinkedIn status; make sure your CV is searchable on any job boards. Tread carefully if you’re already in employment, though; you wouldn’t want your boss stumbling across your CV.
Step 3: Be Proactive
You don’t have to search every day – once a week should be fine.
– Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitter and Check out our LinkedIn Page – we post job listings in all these places.
Step 4: Find a recruiter
They will be able to represent you, and will often put you forward for a job before it has even been advertised to the general public. We definitely do.
Step 5: Tailor your CV for each job you apply for
This is a vital step. It’s much better to send a strong CV to one person than it is to send a generic CV to a dozen people.
Step 6: Proofread!
People make some silly mistakes on their CVs. Unfortunately these are the ones that cost you the job.
Step 7: Always follow up
Employers are busy people and get swamped with hundreds of CVs each day. A week after you’ve applied for a job, follow up with a phone call or an email, to make sure your CV has been received. If nothing else it will force them to give your application a second look.
Step 8: Interviews: prepare, prepare, prepare
- Research the company
- Prepare some questions for your interviewer/s
- Learn the names of the people interviewing you
- Go through your application, so you know how you portrayed yourself
- Print off your CV and take it to the interview with you
- Have your outfit ready the night before
- Learn and practice your journey
- Plan to arrive early – if you’re late the chances of you securing the job become very slim
